Foreign legion shine as the Imps finally win
By Nathan Jackson September 6 2008
Dany N'Guessan and Adrian Patulea scored the goals as the Imps secured all three poitns against a typically dirty Barnet. City dominated the match but never looked like scoring before some brilliant tactical substitutions by Peter Jackson as the game approached full time.

Barnet started well, winning a corner within a minute but Janos Kovacs cleared under pressure. Albert Adomah was fouled and Barnet's resulting free kick sailed over the net before Barnet resumed their typical "crash! bang! whallop!" style of playing the game when Bishop blasted through Frecklington as the City youngster played a good ball across pitch. Bishop was given a warning by the referee.

Dany N'Guessan shot wide before Stefan Oakes almost forced Kadoch into a mistake as his fizzing shot was parried by the Israeli. Beevers won a corner but then concede an immediate free kick as he fouled Akurang when the ball was played in. Ashley Carew battered Beevers and picked up a yellow card for his troubles before Kadoch claimed the free kick without so much as a challenge against him.

Kevin Gall saw his 30 yard chip hit the top of the net before Kadoch started struggling as he mishit a goalkick. He had to be taken off for Harrison after several minutes of treatment. Harrison almost conceded a goal within seconds as an N'Guessan cross sailed over everyone and reached Gall. The striker was 2 yards out and had all the time in the world, but he failed to even hit the target.

Yakubu went down with a mystery injury before Bishop was also down. Despite at least 8 minutes of the half being spent treating injured players, only three minutes were shown and they passed with little incident.

Barnet again start the half well, winning an early free kick that came to nothing. Infact, the second half was going very slowly indeed with few chances for either side. The Imps were still dominating but not doing a lot with the ball. Gall hit the side netting and Wright headed wide before both went off in the 68th minute (that's how quiet the second half was) when they were replaced by LJL and the debuting Adrian Patulea.

It didn't take long for the subs to make an impact as just seven minutes later LJL created the opening goal. His shot on the turn hit the inside of the post and rebounded straight to Dany N'Guessan. The Frenchman rounded off a fine performance by slotting it into the empty net. Medley replaced Akurang for the visitors.

City were denied an almost immediate second when Frecklington's shot was parried straight to N'Guessan. The Frenchman was completely unmarked but missed the target. Tabiri replaced Carew for the visitors but they could help as two months of patience came to an end. Adrian Patulea linked up well with Dany N'Guessan before the Frenchman played him in. A clever turn and shot later and Patulea became the first player since Adie Moses in 2006 to score on his debut. His celebration was certainly one to remember, running at Jackson and celebrating with the whole team before saluting the crowd.

No noteworthy incidents followed and the Imps didn't even have to hang on against a Barnet side that showed the very little attacking intent during the game.

Listening to the andorra commentary, Patulea would be an improvement on the dismal Downing

That was a good result against a very negative Barnet side, were they even time wasting at 1-0 down? I'd love to know how many offsides they had throughout the game.

I'm usually a cynical old b*stard but I was delighted to see Patulea score that goal, it's like a fairy tale for the lad and although we'll need a few games to get the measure of him he seemed to have a lot of heart and must surely get the nod over Gall. He's got to be getting towards 'cult/terrace hero' status.

A great confidence building performance I thought, we passed it around them lovely at times, Oakes spreading the ball around what a pleasure, Freck finding his form again. I know Barnet were unbelievably negative but the style of football we played will trouble alot better sides than Barnet. We killed their game then steadily built ours up, I know we scored quite late but there was only ever going to be one winner in that game. Keep serving that up Lincoln and you will have my admission fee every week with pleasure

My first home game of the season yesterday, after seeing them at Derby and Wycombe.

Barnet were awful. We played some nice stuff with little or no cutting edge. Not sure if its been mentioned previously, but we miss Forrester dont we?

You guys still think you're gonna avoid the drop. Until you get rid of Jacko the only way is down. Don't think a win against the whipping boys is gonna make any difference. (Sm132)
