Now, you may have noticed that this is the third time in four seasons that I've predicted Lincoln City to win promotion. The other two ended up with us fighting relegation for the majority of the season, but I think we can near-enough safely assume this won't happen again, and not just because of the Football League handing out points deductions like sweets.
The optimism around Sincil Bank is certainly the highest it's been for many years. It's all because of Peter Jackson. The one man propaganda machine certainly knows how to get the optimism flowing at LN5 and his signings have certainly shown his intent on challenging for the League Two title.
Looking at the players he has brought in, Stefan Oakes looks to be an excellent player and it's about time we had a set-piece taker that could actually get it over the first defender. Janos Kovacs is a slightly smaller version of Jamie McCombe and the fact that Jackson has actually addressed the defensive problems of last season says it all about his desire and managerial savvy.
This club is almost like a different place compared to this time last year. 12 months ago and virtually no-one was looking forward to the 2007/8 season. John "the monotone monster" Schofield has sucked the optimism out of this club so much that it started to feel more like a chore going to Lincoln games than something that we actually enjoyed.
I know that the fans of some clubs such as Port Vale and Bradford City will think I'm just being biased after claiming neither would challenge for promotion, but I genuinely feel that this is our year. Although I've only seen them play in non-competitive games, this side already looked better than any we've had during our 5 year Playoff hunt and I think 2nd place is our inevitable position.
