WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?
Shrewsbury Town are one of those sides in the division that I respect. They don't go around claiming to be better than everyone else and they are building their club up on and off the field in the right way. They have brought in someone who should realistically turn out to be a right manager and they have a squad that could easily do more than my predicted third place.
Let's start off by looking at that squad and where better than their new striker, Grant Holt. He didn't have the best 2007/8 at Forest and is really looking to re-establish himself as a striker that is capable of scoring for fun. I think that desire can only be a good thing for Shrewsbury and if his desire materialises into goals then Shrewsbury are certainly onto a winner.
They have a generally decent all-round squad, but I must cast a cautious eye of Glyn Garner. Known as a keeper who blamed everyone other than himself at Bury, the goalkeeper has a habit of making several big mistakes. But other than him, you'd be hard pushed to find a bad player at Shrewsbury. I am particularly impressed that they have attacted Graham Coughlan, a defender who has played at a much higher level than League Two.
I think Shrewsbury have a lot going for them. I've been told by one of their fans to stay away from from the "Legoland Stadium" joke, but I actually quite like their ground and if they can get a decent atmosphere there then they can turn the New Meadow into a fortress.
I think that the top 3 will be tightly contested between the three sides I'm predicting, and although I think Shrewsbury will finish in 3rd, I think they won't be that far off of the top.
