5th : Taylor onto a winner at Wycombe
By Nathan Jackson August 6 2008
Wycombe are one of those sides that are near enough always chasing promotion but never actually achieving it. Now they've appointed a manager that has won promotion with numerous clubs and they arguably have the best all around squad in League Two, but are the club in for yet another season of frustration.

WHO ARE WYCOMBE WANDERERS?

WHO IS PETER TAYLOR?

WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU'RE GOING?

LAST SEASON'S VIDEO

I think Wycombe Wanderers have an excellent chance of promotion during the coming season. They remind me a lot of Lincoln between 2003 and 2005. They are generally very consistent but at the end of the season it only looks like they have barely scraped in.

In terms of their squad they have a good mix of youth and experience and have a strike partnership that could potentially score 50 goals between them. Leon Knight has failed to find his feet properly in League Two as of yet, but I think Scott McGleish can be a fine mentor to the former Brighton man. They make just two of what is arguably the best all-round squad in the division.

However, I think one danger that they will have is the automatic assumption that they will be up there simply because of Peter Taylor being manager. Taylor hasn't been a success in recent seasons, failing to take Stevenage into the Playoffs last season despite being primed to strike. However, I think Taylor has a better squad now than he had to work with whilst at Hull in this division.

I was originally going to predict the Chairboys for automatic promotion, but I now feel that is slightly beyond them. If they replicate their performance from Sincil Bank from last season then they will quickly drop points. I was actually quite surprised at how poor their performance was that day and I know that Wycombe are capable of much more.

If Wycombe can start firing on all cylinders then they could easily finish in the Playoffs, however they will certainly have to perform better than they did in last season's semis in they intend on progressing to Wembley. Plus, if my predictions are truly then they get a lovely derby game in the Playoffs.
