Rotherham United's manager - Mark Robins
By Nathan Jackson July 17 2008
Mark Robins was a proven goalscorer during his career and won European trophies. The former Manchester United star is the current manager at Rotherham United and certainly seems to be doing a fairly decent job, it's just a pity that off the field matters seemingly ruining any realistic chance that this club has of winning promotion.
Mark Robins is the current manager of Rotherham United. He is widely regarded as the man who saved Alex Ferguson's job at Manchester United. Robins was the product of the Old Trafford youth system and he scored a winning goal against Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup in 1990. Had he not scored that goal then Ferguson would almost certainly have been sacked at the end of that season.

Robins scored 11 goals in his 48 appearances before leaving for Norwich City. He scored twice on his debut against Arsenal and helped the club challenge for the title, eventually having to settle for a UEFA Cup place. He was part of the side that shocked Bayern Munich but his days at Carrow Road were numbered.

After 20 goals in 68 appearances, he got into a major argument with John Deehan. Deehan was the manager at Norwich at the time and Robins was sold to Leicester City. However, he couldn't help the Foxes stay up and they were relegated along with Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town and Norwich City. Leicester won promotion straight back via the Playoffs and he also helped them win the Coca-Cola Cup the next season. Loan spells at Copenhagen and Reading followed.

He transferred to C.D Ourense before joining Panionios. He scored 1 goal in 13 games before returning to England for a loan spell with Manchester City. He returned permanently with Walsall, scoring 6 goals in 40 appearances before moving onto Rotherham United for the most prolific spell of his career.

He helped the club win their second promotion in a row in 2000/1 before then helping the Millers sustain their placing in what is now known as the Championship. However, he fell out of favour at Millmoor and almost joined Lincoln City on loan, changing his mind at the last minute.

A successful loan spell at Bristol City was followed with a permanent deal at Sheffield Wednesday. He stayed at Hillsborough for a season before moving to his final club, a 9 game spell with Burton Albion.

It brought to an end a career which saw him appear for England U21, winning the FA Cup, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Super Cup and the League Cup.

He became a caretaker manager at Rotherham United, before staying on as a coach. He retook over on a caretaker basis after Alan Knill was sacked, taking the job on permanently at the beginning of last season.
