Dagenham and Redbridge's Manager - John Still
By Nathan Jackson July 14 2008
John Still is the current manager of Dagenham and Redbridge FC. He has managed the side in different stages of it's many merges with other teams throughout the years, also spending some time at Sincil Bank during his career. He has been a success at non-League level but seems to struggle adapting to League lifte, seeing Barnet relegated in 2000/1 and almost relegating Dagenham last season.
John Still is the current manager of Dagenham and Redbridge. He was a professional footballer at Leyton Orient, but he made just a single appearance before moving into the non-league. He played for Bishop's Stortford, Ilford and Dagenham before retiring due to a knee injury.

His first foray into manager came at Leytonstone and Ilford, a recently merged side from Leytonstone FC and Ilford FC. They went on to win the Isthmian League before he went on to Dartford. He won the Southern League title there before returning to Leytonstone and Ilford FC.

It wasn't long before his was on his travels again, this time guiding Maidstone United to the Conference title in 1989, including promotion to the Football League. However, he had little desire to go into full time coaching and he moved to Redbridge Forest. Redbridge Forest had merged with Leytonstone and Ilford FC and Walthamstow Avenue FC. Redbridge Forest went on to win the Isthmian League and into the Conference. The side merged with Dagenham and become the modern Dagenham and Redbridge FC.

His first stint as a manager in the Football League came as the manager of Peterborough United. He left in October 1995 and soon found his way into a coaching role at Sincil Bank, leaving to become manage of Barnet just in time for the 1997/8 season. He took Barnet to the Playoffs two years running, but the Bees were relegated when he moved up to a Director of Football role, Tony Cottee replacing him in the manager's hotseat.

Still did return to the managing seat at Underhill after Cottee left in February 2001, but he couldn't prevent Barnet getting relegated on the final day. A meeting with Torquay United would see the team losing getting relegated. It was a tight affair and Torquay eventually won the game 3-2, relegating Barnet in the process.

He remained there until February 2002, eventually resigning and taking up a coaching role at Bristol Rovers. His time there lasted until January 2004 and he would eventually return as manager of Dagenham and Redbridge, replacing Garry Hill. After consecutive midtable finishes, Dagenham and Redbridge would eventually win promotion to the Football League in 2006/7.

His 206 games in his second spell in charge of Dagenham has seen 87 wins, 43 draws and 76 defeats.
