Let's make no bones about it, Accrington Stanley are a bit crap
One of the most shocking statistics is that they weren't the worst home side in the division. Losing 15 games on their own turf was somehow not enough to be the worst in the division. Two teams had worse records than them, despite the fact that Accrington only picked up 22 home points. Compare that to a rather impressive 9 away wins, it really makes you wonder what is wrong with them at the Fraser Eagle Stadium.
For a time it did look like they might actually figure in the Playoff picture, climbing to 8th place after 12 games. However, they started slipping immediately and spent the majority of the season in the lower half of the table. However, they did finish a respectable 17th place and quite comfortably above the drop zone.
They conceded more goals than anyone else in League Two, conceding 83 in their 46 games, an average of 1.8 goal every game, compared that to just 49 scored and it's easy to see why they lost as many games as they did.
They did strangely have some very interesting stats when it came to turnarounds. They lost five of the 19 games in which they scored first, but won three of the 26 in which they conceded first. They kept 8 clean sheets but failed to score on 20 occasions. They gained 14 points from losing positions, the 10th best record in the division, but they also lost 19 points from winning positions.
The goals were fairly spread out at Stanley. Paul Mullin scored 13, Procter hit the net 11 times, D'Sane on 8 occasions, Craney with 3, Cavanagh and Thomas with 2 and Edwards, Kempson, Mangan, McGivern and Richardson each popping up with one each. They were also the beneficiaries of two own goals. They failed to score past six teams, whereas not one side failed to score against them.
The most common scoreline in an Accrington Stanley match was a 2-0 defeat. The scoreline came on twelve occasions. The second most common result was a 1-0 win, with that occurring on six different occasions. They conceded 3 or more goals on eight occasions, a record only worsened by Lincoln City.
