It will come as no surprise when I say Wrexham's season has been terrible. 9 wins, 10 draws and 28 defeats tells it's own story. Only 3 of those wins came away from home, coming against Accrington (October 5th), Bury (4th December) and Chester City (March 9th). They haven't picked up a point on the road since that win at Chester.
Not once this season have they managed to reach a double figure points total in a month. Their highest points total for a single month was 8 in March, which is the only month where they have won more than one game. Because of this record they have been in the bottom two since before Christmas. In the whole season they have spent just 7 occasions outside of the bottom 2, six of those coming within the first few months of the season.
The goals certainly haven't been free-flowing for the Dragons. Proctor has scored twelve and Roberts has put nine shots into the net. However, the now retired Eifion Williams is the next top scorer on 4, Evans has 3, Broughton and Llewellyn both have two, whereas Hall, Sonnor, Spann and Spender have 1 each. A total of 36 goals in a season is just asking for trouble, it seems almost amusing that some Wrexham fans were adament they'd win promotion this season.
Some Wrexham fans were pinning their hopes on Juan Urgate. The Spanish striker scored for fun in League One but has barely played match since then.
Wrexham are one of the few sides that have a worse record than the Imps when going behind. They have conceded the first goal on 27 occasions and only picked up four points from those games, all ending in a draw. They have strangely kept 12 clean sheets, a commendable record considering where they are. A rather unsurprising stat is that they've failed to score on 20 occasions, losing 15 of those.
Wrexham have currently picked up 11 points fewer than this time last season. Their record after 45 games last season was won 12 (a double over City included), drawn 12 and lost 21. They had to win on the last day to stay up, but interestingly they'd still be going into the last day this season needing a result to guarantee safety if they had the same record.
For a League Two side, they have a massive squad of 27 professionals, aided to by 11 signings (three on loan) in the January transfer window. They must have been truly desperate when they signed Drewe Broughton on loan from MK Dons.
Their starting XI against Accrington last Saturday was Michael Jones ,Pejic ,Steve Evans (Taylor ,46 ) ,Gareth Evans ,Mike Williams ,Mackin ,Fleming ,Done ,Roberts ,Carvill (Baynes ,46 ) ,Llewellyn
