Imps end away season with fine victory
By Nathan Jackson April 27 2008
City won their final away game of the season thanks to goals from Ben Wright and Paul Green. City were 1-0 up at the break after one of the poorest first half performances all season long. The performance improved after half time and the Imps squandered several chances to wrap up a fairly convincing victory before the hosts pulled one back in added on time.

Lee Beevers gave away a free kick within seconds of Morecambe kicking off. The set piece was played into the box but it was cleared by the City defence. However, Morecambe can very close to taking the lead in the third mintue when Duffy seemingly dealt with a through-ball, only to see it squirm out the back and it was only a lack of time that probably contributed to Blinkhorn missing the open goal.

Duffy saved a Thompson effort at the second attempt before Hunter was grounded with an injury. City's first major movement of the game came with interplay between Forrester and Freck. Forrester crossed the ball in and Freck was through one-on-one but failed to control the ball and it went out for a goal kick.

Blinkhorn shot wide for the hosts before Duffy again gifted a chance to the opposition when he came out to clear the ball and he hit it straight to Baker. The Morecambe man controlled the ball and shot, only to see his effort dip the wrong side of the bar as far as he was concerned.

Baker was injured by Moses and a foul by the same defender on Blinkhorn saw the experienced defender yellow carded. A rather one sided first half continued as Gary Croft's last minute clearance saw Morecambe denied a good chance. Rather unsurprisingly, the Imps wasted a corner before Pembleton strangely decided to pass into open space when nearly through on goal.

Freck cleared a chance before Pembleton failed to beat Davies to the ball. Blinkhorn's shot was cleared off of the line before King failed to connect with a Green cross. Beevers joined Moses in the book following a foul before the Imps took the lead. The goal came when King played a good through-ball to Wright and the striker slotted it past Davies from a narrow angle for one of the lead deserved goals we've scored all season.

Dodds had a shot deflected wide soon after but the sides with the better side on the day losing.

Morecambe won a corner within seconds of the restart but City counter-attacked this and Pembleton forced Davies into a stunning save. Gary Croft cleared a Morecambe effort of of the line before he fwas fouled by McStay, the challenge earning the Morecambe man a yellow card.

Wright then wasted, and I do mean WASTED, a brilliant opportunity to extend the lead when he was put through by Pembleton. It seemed he was destined to score but he shot went well wide of the target from the edge of the box. Forrester and Dodds had efforts go near before Pembleton was injured missing an open goal. He was replaced by Shane Clarke after several minutes of treatment.

Blinkhorn hit the post from 25 yards before Moses was replaced by Hone. Curtis came on for Twiss for the hosts before City took a 2-0 lead. Paul Green made a good run into the box and shot past Davies for only his second goal in a Lincoln shirt.

Green almost scored again when he spotted Blinkhorn off his line before Forrester shot over with 10 minutes left. Newby came on for Thompson before Dodds was the next Imps player to waste a chance when he shot wide from the edge of the box.

Duffy saved from Blinkhorn before N'Guessan came on for King. Forrester found himself one-on-one before strangely decided to run sideways instead of forwards. Croft came close to his first Lincoln goal before Blinkhorn pulled one back for the hosts when he shot under Duffy.

The hosts couldn't equalised in the remaining minutes of injury time and City held on for the win.
