Lincoln City were dumped out of the FA Cup at the first round stage again after being taught a footballing lesson by a Nottingham Forest side who were unfortunate to only score 3 goals. City offered little and were made to pay for some slack defending by a Forest side who had 2 goals disallowed and many other wasted chances, with the 3-1 scoreline really flattering the Imps.

City started the game with the same line-up that beat Notts County on Saturday, with the exception of Ben Smith who was cup-tied so he was replaced by Marriott. It was the Imps who started the game and City tried to set their stall immediately wtih Frecklington's shot hit a Forest defender just on it's way into the goal and it was eventually cleared. Arron Davies forced Marriott to make a save from a 25 yard shot before Nathan Tyson wasted a golden opportunity.

The former Lincoln City target recieved the ball from Cohen and he had an open goal from 6 yards out, blasting it high into the empty upper tier of the Bridgeford End of the ground. It had followed him having a goal disallowed for offside a moment earlier. Paul Green had to be alert to deny the livewire striker as he almost burst through.

Owain Warlow took the Imps on a rare attack but his cross sailed into the Trend End. Forest's excellent attacking skills saw Moses have to heard over his own bar for another Forest corner. On the half hour mark City fans were appealing for a penalty when Dodds was denied by a challenge by Bennett, the defender have to go off injured and he was replaced by Perch.

City were starting to look a bit stretched at the back as Moses picked up and injured and Forest took this brilliant opportunity by giving the ball to Commons on the left and seeing him drill a ball across Marriott and into the corner of the net to give Forest a deserved lead. City immediately replaced Moses and Watt.

Forest came close to making it a quickfire second but Marriott saved well from Davis. Paul Green shot over to end the first half.

Dodds was replaced by N'Guessan at half time. City were again claiming a penalty when Forrester collapsed under Morgan in the box, the referee waved play away and from the counter attack Forest scored. Tyson ran past the defence without a worry and sent the ball across Marriott and into the goal.

Wright was caught offside for the umpteenth time and the game was well and truly buried just on the hour mark as Tyson scored his second. He sent a Davies effort trickling over the line and City looked like they could be about to be on the end of a thumping.

John-Lewis came on for Warlow before Hone required treatment after a Commons challenge. Frecklington sent a lot shot goalwards with Smith poking it out for a corner, even though it just appeared to be heading wide anyway. Then City got a goal that they didn't really deserved when Forrester ran past a few defenders and eventually managed to get the ball from under his feet and roll it very slowly into the goal.

Forest had another goal disallowed for offside before Green volleyed a corner well over the net. The game was very quickly coming to an end and neither side could come up with anymore noteworthy chances as the Imps went out of the cup in the 1st round for the fourth season in a row.
