The defeat at Wrexham means City now sit in the relegation zone after 5 straight defeats and could face another season in the top-tier of non-league football if results don't improve. If the Imps lose on Tuesday night at Gigg Lane, it will be the first time we've lost 6 in a row since the 1998/9 season, a season in which the Imps were relegated.
Things at Sincil Bank are far from rosey these days, with pessimistic City fans no outnumbering the optimistic quite heavily. The way the Imps are playing at the mintue is becoming rather depressing, the first half at Wrexham being a prime example as the Imps didn't have a single shot on goal.
The Imps are only kept off of the bottom by a haphazardous Mansfield side, although if they get an overdue win then they could put pressure on the Imps to get a result against Bury, otherwise City could find themselves going bottom.
As for the Imps line up, changes have been promised to be made for the Bury game.....how many times have we heard that before??? The only guaranteed change will be someone replacing Gary Croft at left back, after the defender was sent off against Wrexham. Other than that it will almost certainly be exactly the same line-up that played against Wrexham.
As for Bury, they've had a very mixed start to the season. Highs have included being the first team to win at MK Dons' new stadium and winning a local derby against Accrington Stanley on Saturday. That was their first win since the MK Dons game though, with various defeats in the weeks following.
Arguably Bury's best player is Andy Bishop. The Bury fans rate him as being worth at least £500,000 after scoring 21 goals last season, but he has made a comparitively slow start to this season with just 3 goals to his name, 2 of those coming in the win at MK Dons on the opening day.
Other names familiar to the Imps fans will be Paul Morgan and Ben Futcher. Morgan was captain at Sincil Bank for 3 years between 2002 and 2005, then inconsistent performances and injuries saw the captaincy handed over to Jamie McCombe. Futcher was captain once or twice when Morgan wasn't playing, and ended the 2002/3 season as City's top scorer.
