At the end of August I was starting to get optimistic about our chances this season, 5 defeats later and now everyone's fearing for the future as the Imps are sinking faster than a dingy with Pavarotti on it. Against Mansfield and Accrington the Imps looked very dangerous, looking like they could score 6-7 goals in each game, since then I don't think we've had 6 or 7 shots.
For all those who think this is going to be an anti-Schofield rant, then I will unfortunately be disappointing you as I'm sick of proving that he is statistically not a bad manager.
Each time we have gotten near the box, we just seem very afraid to shoot until defenders are blocking the goal. The defeat at Wrexham highlighted this when Stallard was one-on-one with the keeper but for some reason refused to shoot until defenders had got back, and the best chance we had during the game was gone.
Speaking of wasted opportunities, does no-one at the club realise Frecklington can't take a corner to save his life. Every single corner he's taken over the last two games has either gone over everyone, straight out of play or at the first defender. Only when Scott Kerr started taking them against Wrexham did we look threatening from set pieces. Even if we got just a few chances over the first defender then we would stand a better chance of scoring a goal.
The most annoying thing is though that other than Darlington, not side has looked better than us. Dagenham were fortunate that they have a decent goalkeeper, otherwise we would have easily come out of Essex with 3 points. Bradford minus Omar Daley would be a very bad side, Grimsby required 14 men to beat us and Wrexham barely had any shots. The reason we're losing these games is because we're refusing to put on more than one attack a game.
I know this rant was a bit short but the main problem is our lack of an attempt to attack, and that we could be looking at another pointless month as we're about to face a lot of very good teams in the upcoming months.
