City started the game off and lacklusture opening periods were highlighted by Anthony Williams tapping a ball out for a corner, despite that it was heading out for a goal kick. Frecklington rather unsurprisingly kicked the resulting corner straight at the first defender.
Wrexham controlled the early portion of the game and won a penalty in the 18th minute when Williams went down like he'd be hit by a rhino in the box, the referee awarding a penalty. Marriott saved the spot kick and tipped it around the post. Wrexham continued to control the game but failed to create any chances until Marriott caught a Marc Williams header just after the 30 minute mark.
Dodds and Green were both injured in a small space of time, with Dodds being forced to make way for Lee Frecklington. Stallard was booked within a minute for jumping on Jones. The half ended with Frecklington wasting yet another corner.
City had a brilliant opportunity to take the lead at the beginning of the second half when Forrester released Stallard, the former Shrewsbury man being left with a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Strangely Stallard decided not to take the easy option of shooting from a decent angle, and instead waited for 2 defenders to get back. He subsequently went around these defenders before sending a shot goalwards, only to see his self-time-wasting costing him as it was cleared off of the line.
City were made to rue Stallard's confusing decision minutes later when Williams got the ball on the edge of the box and created space for himself. He sent in a right football curling shot that sailed over Marriott and into the net. City's task became een harder a few minutes later when Gary Croft was booked twice in a minute and recieved a red-card.
Forrester then brought an end yet another disappointing performance when he was replaced by Ollie Ryan. City had a great chance within a minute as Frecklington was fouled on the edge of the box, Jamie Hand booted the resulting free kick straight at the wall. N'Guessan replaced Moses for City, Done coming on for Taylor for the hosts.
The players suddenly realised Frecklington can't take a corner to save his life, so Kerr decided to have a go and the Imps almost scored. His set-piece was headed back across goal and fell at the feet of Paul Green. The defender paniced and ended up slicing the ball behind him.
City controlled the closing periods but couldn't find an equaliser and made it 5 defenders in a row for the first time since the 2000/1 season.
