Reaction to the defeat at Dagenham and Redbridge
By Nathan Jackson September 2 2007
City made it 3 defeats from the first 5 games in a competitions and missed the chance to go top of the table. It wasn't a bad performance but showed how easily City can pay for not taking chances. City wasted numerous chances to take the lead but only some wayward shooting and decent goalkeeping from Roberts prevented the Imps from leaving Essex with all 3 points.

Sitting in Dagenham and Redbridge's stand at the side of the pitch saw me struggling to realise I was at a League ground. It felt like an FA Cup game down in the non-league and there wasn't a single moment that felt like I was watching a league game.

I found myself getting more frustrated as the afternoon went on as City wasted chance after chance. It was seemingly one of those days where nothing at all was going to right for the Imps. I can't recall N'Guessan, Frecklington and Stallard missing the simple one-on-ones before, again it was probably just one of those days.

There were two things that majorly disappointed me, the first being the passing accuracy. How hard can it be to pass to someone with the correct amount of power who's just 10/20 yards away from you? I mean obviously one or two might go slightly from where you intend them to go, but I lost complete count as to how many times we just gave it straight to the opposition.

The other disappointing thing was how selfish some of the players were being with their shooting. Several players were taking shots from stupid angles and positions instead of passing to players who were in far better position. If they haven't been quite that selfish then we'd have had more reliastic chances and maybe score a goal.

Obviously this defeat is a knock but given how we started the season I will remain content for now. However, we are now entering a very difficult period and we need to start taking our chances if we are to maintain a promotion push.
