N'Guessan shines as Imps put pay to sloppy Accy
By Kate Jackson August 25 2007
Lincoln City will have few afternoons as trouble free as they had against Accrington Stanley on a very warm Saturday afternoon, with Dany N'Guessan again taking the plaudits. N'Guessan was the first goalscorer after 30 minutes with Louis Dodds joining him on 2 goals for the season thanks to some quick reactions in the second half. The win now moves the Imps up to 4th place.

A blisteringly warm afternoon greeted the Imps and Stanley, with the Imps making just one change from the win at Mansfield last week with Beevers returning from injury at the expense of Paul Green.

The Imps got the game underway but it was Accrington who held the ball most during the opening 5 or so minutes, but they couldn't do anything with it and the Imps gradually started to take a strangle-hold on the game.

Lee Frecklington took City's first corner but it landed straight into the gloves of Kenny Arthur. It wasn't long before another corner was headed wide by Brown. Arthur then had to be at his best to deny Forrester as the striker hit the ball towards the bottom left hand side of the goal.

N'Guessan's tried an audacious lob from 30 yards out on the left wing and it almost decieved Arthur, the goalkeeper only just prevented the ball from going over the line. Frecklington wasted City's third and fourth corners but it wasn't long until the Imps took a deserved lead.

Forrester and Frecklington linked up well in a 3 on 2 situation, with the latter provided a through ball to N'Guessan and the Frenchman struck home from just inside the area to reduced City's goal difference to -1 for the season.

The CO-OP Stand thought it was 2-0 as a brilliant strike from N'Guessan took a slight deflected and appeared to fly into the net. However, the quickness of the ball decieved these fans and gave the impression it had entered the net when it had infact gone just wide.

Chances from this point onwards to half time were sparse and City took a well earned 1-0 lead into the break.

Stanley were slightly the better side in the early stages of the fsecond half but a very late Edwards tackle prevented N'Guessan from having yet another free run on goal. Former Manchester United trainee David Brown came on for James Harris for the visitors.

A rare Accrington foray forward saw Frecklington conceded a free kick, it was wasted by Miles though. City launched an attack from the goalkick and Stallard ran into the appear and appeared to be heavily fouled, but to no-one's surprise Singh didn't give a penalty, but instead Stallard persisted and fed the ball to Dodds and his belted the ball into the net from 6 yards to make it 2-0.

Benin international Boco went off for Whalley and McGrail replaced Mullin for the visitors before Forrester was replaced by Ryan for City. Williams was booked for the visitors, Brown headed over the resultant free kick.

N'Guessan almost provided one of the best goals ever seen at Sincil Bank when his shot from the corner of the 18 yard box seemed to travel at the speed of a train (not a Central Train obviously) but the goalkeeper somehow managed to get his hand to the ball and it went out for a corner. Dodds was then replaced by Warlow.

City continued to control the game but no more chances we created for the Imps and it finished 2-0 to City, moving the Imps to 4th in the division.
