Can City build on Mansfield victory against Accy?
By Kate Jackson August 22 2007
Lincoln City finally got underway in terms of the points tally last week and will be aiming to make it 2 victories in a row for the first time since February when they face Accrington Stanley. City were unfortunate not to take the full 6 points off of Stanley last season but a victory could not only see City move onto 6 points for the season, but also make the goal difference more favourable.

The game at Sincil Bank between the Imps and the men from the Fraser Eagle Stadium was as one sided as they come. Gritton opened the scoring and a Mark Stallard brace later saw the Imps cruising, a late flurry from Accrington amounted to nothing other than a consolation. The return game was a slightly more even contest but to say Accrington didn't deserve the point they secured would be like describing Scott Kerr's passing this season as slightly inaccurate.

The Imps will go into Saturday's home game against the Lancashire side full of confidence following a highly efficient performance against Mansfield Town last Saturday. It was an afternoon where things finally started coming together for the Imps and it was a mini-flashback of the way we used to play for the first half of last season.

Some of the problems we had in the opening two games were commendably altered by Mr's Schofield and Deehan. It was a shock to see Kerr dropped but the change allowed the Imps to complete a few passes here and there, and to say Jamie Hand made a big difference would be another understatement. Typical Lincoln really, one understatement after another.

Before we start talking about the teams, Ryan Amoo has also improved considerably since moving to the right back position. If the former boyfriend of Jade Goody can continue to play to a sufficient level in that position then Lee Beevers could struggle to get back into the side.

As for the line ups, City will hopefully line up how they did last Saturday, with Marriott in goal, Green, Moses, Brown and Amoo in defence. The midfield will hopefully stay the same, as will the attack and if we play that team and formation then we should be laughing really.

Many people say they were surprised with Accrington's win at Wycombe on the opening day, but there was little to be surprised about when you consider how poor Wycombe were towards the end of last season. They followed it up by a less than convincing display against Darlington as the Quakers apparantly strolled to victory without barely breaking sweat.

Accy fans have certainly been confident ahead of this game with more than half the posters on their official message board being seemingly convinced that they will win, and win convincingly.
