Lincoln City's cup runs are over usually over quicker than a Nat Brown hoof to the other end of the pitch. Since 1999 we've only progressed to the second round twice in this competition and will hope to replicate the spirited performance against Scunthorpe last season.
This game comes extremely soon after one of the most humiliating defeats in recent memory as City rolled over and died against Shrewsbury Town, allowing the visitors to score 4 very simple and unchallenged goals. It was the ultimate worst start to the season and the Imps are bottom of the table for the first time in a VERY VERY long time.
After Schofield finally admitted he was disappointed with the defence and how they played, it's anyone's guess who some of the starting 11 will be. Nat Brown has come under serious fire for his poor performance that opened the floodgates for Shrewsbury, whereas Phil Watt made a below-par first team debut and both will probably only keep their places in the first 11 if Adie Moses and Lee Beevers are still injured.
Other than that we probably shouldn't expect many/any changes to the starting 11 that has conceded 9 goals in the last two competitive games.
Donny started their season with a slightly less disappointing defeat, drawing 0-0 at home to Millwall. Sean O'Driscoll's men have been tipped by many to be challenging for promotion this season and improve what has been one of the most remarkable turn arounds in football history. Just 5 years ago they were in the Conference, then two promotions in a row has seen them enter League 1, missing out on the Playoffs in the last two seasons.
O'Driscoll was in charge of Bournemouth in the 2002/3 playoff final against the Imps and it's hardly a surprise he's brought in several former Cherries players. James Hayter, James O'Connor and Brian Stock amongst those who made the journey north.
They also have a squad that has gained a lot of promotions during their individual careers. Other than the aforementioned lot, Jason Price won promotion with Swansea and Hull, Adam Lockwood with Yeovil, Graeme Lee with Hartlepool and Sheffield Wednesday and those are just some of the names that will turn Doncaster into a tough side to beat this season.
City will have to be at their best to avoid being out at the first round stage again.
