The first half was a very timid affair with neither side really making an impression. City barely even got into the Shrewsbury half with wayward passing from Kerr, hoof and hoof from Nat Brown (no change there) and the lack of a bead of sweat on any of the City player's heads made it just miserable viewing in the first half as chances were at a premium for both sides.
The second half started well for the Imps before the visitors cleared a free kick off of the line. The first major example of City's defence being like the Titanic came when Drummond broke free, but Marriott thankfully recovered to deny him.
Then came example 1 of why Nat Brown shouldn't be a first choice choice when Shrewsbury put in a timid cross, and instead of calmly controlling it and clearing it he just swung his foot at it like a neanderthal who can't keep a ball on the ground, his wild swing completely missed the ball and Shrewsbury had 3 players who had the chance before Andy Cooke tapped it in.
4 minutes later and Phil Watt slipped and Hibbert had a one-on-one with Marriott and the Shrewsbury man came out on top. N'Guessan replaced Amoo before Stallard came on for Dodds.
City's first decent chance saw Frecklington try and chip over the goalkeeper, unsurprisingly failing. Hibbertt came on for Leslie before Stallard chipped just wide of the post. Ryan came on for Kerr and Forrester was named as captain.
N'Guessan booted it over the bar. Shrewsbury took the ball down the other end and Cooke tapped in Pugh's cross from the 6 yard box and within a minute it was 4-0 when Leslie headed home a Herd cross to make it 4-0. Sincil Bank's crowd then started to leave and heavily boo.
Gary Croft saved it from being 5-0 by heading off the line but that was as good as it got for City in the second half.
The Blue Square Premier League looks a real possibility at this point.
