City win the LINCOLN DERBY AGAIN
By Nathan Jackson July 18 2007
Lincoln City won their first friendly of the new season by putting in a professional and confident performance against Lincoln United, winning 2-1 in a end-to-end game between two good sides. All the trialists played in the game and all put in a strong case for being awarded with a contract, with one of them scoring the opening goal before Ollie Ryan extended the lead.

United started the better of the two sides but it ended up with City creating the first few chances but very few shots on goal. Dany N’Guessan was playing well, beating players with ease but his final ball was disappointing. The referee angered Imps fans midway through the half when Forrester picked up the ball on the edge of the area, but it was ruled out as the referee pulled the action back for a foul about 10 seconds later.

City continued to have the best chances with United rarely threatening and the first half ended 0-0, but at least it was an entertaining game.

The second half was absolutely dominated by City and they took a deserved lead when trialist Kevin Smith scored after some great work down the left with Croft. The link up between the two was one of the biggest plus points of the game, and if they got contracts and achieve that same level of play then they could prove to be priceless next season.

City were unlucky not to extend the lead as chances were well saved from the keeper. One of the other trailists, Michael Roddy then hit the bar from a free kick but it wasn’t long before the Imps extended their lead, with Ollie Ryan beating his man well and smashing the ball in from a narrow angle.

United got a goal that overall they deserved through Good. Despite losing they looked a highly competent side and will probably challenge for promotion to the Conference North this season.

For City though it was a good exercise, and a good all around performance the saw the return of decent football being played.
