Where do you think you're going? : Bury
By Nathan Jackson
May 29 2007
City will make their 8th visit to Bury in 8 seasons in all competitions next season as the Imps aim to improve on a record on one win, one cup win on penalties, 3 draws and 2 defeats. Gigg Lane is one of the most picture-esque grounds in the division, but there is little to do around the ground, unless you want to have a pint that is.

The Imps will make their 7th successive League visit to Bury during the season. City have been in three different stands during the previous six visits but we'll be sticking to the Cemetery End, unless they change plans yet again of course.

Although the Cemetery End it is an unrestricted view, you are a fair distance from the pitch and therefore it is fairly difficult to see what is happening at the other end of the field. Infact, it's kind of ironic that Bury have a stand called the Cemetery End, their atmosphere is one you'd expect to find in a cemetery. In the 6 visits to the ground, the City fans would be hard pushed to remember a time where the Bury fans were chanting.

There are a few pubs within a walkable distance but the best and most friendly is the one based at the club. The drinks are cheap and there's an absolutely huge screen to watch what-ever match is on Sky at the time. This pub also underwent a recent cosmetic change, although it's still not the best that you could possibly find.

To get to the ground, head up the M66 and exit at Junction 3. Follow the left hand exit until you reach the Manchester Road T-Junction. Turn right, follow the road past a few pubs and then right again onto Gigg Lane. It's mainly street parking around the ground, but there is plenty of it and all is within a very short walk of the ground.

Bury doesn't have an individual train station, but it is served by the Metrolink system from Manchester. For this reason the below train times are to Manchester. From the Metrolink Station, Turn left and go underneath the dual carriageway. Turn right towards the Town Hall and then left into Knowsley Street and then left onto the A56 Manchester Road. Keep going for 1/2 mile and turn onto Gigg Lane

Heading back is on the same principle for the only two trains available. If you miss the 18:39 train then you aren't going to get home on the same night.
