City kicked off an gave the ball to Wrexham within 2 seconds, the Dragons ran down the centre and sent a looping shot towards Marriott. That was an indication about how rubbish and wasteful the Imps were going to be in the afternoon. City created a few attacks early on but the players kept giving the ball straight to Wrexham, this never stopped as the Imps seemed on top in the opening periods.
Although it was against the general run of play, it was no surprise when Wrexham’s second attack of the game resulted in a goal. The cross came in from the left and Simon Spender rose above the defence to head goalwards, Nicky Eaden tried to head clear on the line but the ball went over his head and Wrexham had the lead.
The game turned into a midfield battle and then in the 28th minute Wrexham scored again. Another cross came in with Danny Williams heading back across the box, Scott Kerr flung himself at the ball and watched as his header sailed into the back of the net. This brought a large section of the Imps crowd to their feet and justifiably booing the side.
Just before the half was over, Scott Kerr was booked for a foul. Beevers spent some time on the floor following the awarding of a free kick and that resulted in 5 minutes of added on time being called. Nothing happened in those 5 minutes and City were booed off the pitch.
City made two half time substitutions, with Lee Beevers and Peter Holmes making way for Paul Morgan and Danny N’Guessan. Great, Dany N’Guessan’s coming on,
It was 3-0 within the first seven minutes of the second half when McEvilly headed a cross into the net to bring the Welsh to their feet, it also brought some of the English to their feet as several hundred City fans left the ground.
Williams and Proctor were booked in quick succession before Mayo was booked for dissent following the awarding of a corner, Wrexham almost made it 4-0 but McEvilly’s latest header went over the bar. Junior Mendes replaced Forrester for City. Mackin, Williams and Johnson replaced Williams, Done and Proctor for the visitors.
City failed to create any chances in the remainder of the game to wrap up yet another gutless performance.
