new stand to be built

Yeovil Town have announced that a new stand is to be built at the Copse Road End terrace and that the top training pitches are to be redeveloped into a retail facility generating up to 300 jobs.

Local businessman Chris Dawson (owner of The Range, home leisure and garden empire) is at the head of the developments, as he has been rumoured to be interesting in investing in the club. 

His business is said to be worth £250 million, and it would be his company CDS who would redevelop the top training pitches into a retail park. 

In terms of the stand itself, they plan to build a stand holding 3,500 supporters, which will then ensure they meet football league requirements which otherwise may have seen them chucked out of the league.

Speaking of the news Chairman John Fry was delighted, and saw this as a huge step forward for the club:

"Yeovil Town FC is an important economic driver in the South West region and is embarking on this project to ensure that it has the resources and supporters facilities on site to continue to compete in the Football League. We have entered this joint venture to ensure that Yeovil Town FC remains at the heart of our town and county. By developing the area around Huish Park we have the opportunity to bring in much needed investment to the club and the area."

"Without this investment there is a high chance that we won’t meet the Football Leagues future demands for stadium improvements, which will mean that we may not be able to stay in the League. The football club is urging supporters, local people and business owners to get behind the proposed developments to ensure that the club has a bright future. If this proposal is given the go ahead by the council we can deliver a great new leisure, sports and retail environment on site at Huish Park."
