Oh We Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside!

Virgo's Former Club

Yeovil travel to the Withdean Stadium this Saturday to take on league leaders Brighton & Hove Albion.

The Glovers are coming off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Sheffield Wednesday, and will be hoping to get back to winning ways and continue their surge away from the bottom four after losing just one of their last four games.

Brighton on the other hand destroyed Charlton at the Valley 4-0 continuing their impressive start to the season under Gus Poyet.

The Seagulls are unbeaten so far this season at home, recording four wins and two draws.

Yeovil's squad consist of several players with Brighton connections. Notably assistant manager Nathan Jones and Adam Virgo, who spent 5 and 7 years at the Withdean respectively.

Strike force Dean Bowditch and Sam Williams both spent loan spells at the Seagulls, whilst recovering 'keeper John Sullivan began his career at Brighton & Hove.

Manager Terry Skiverton has gone through what may be considered an injury crisis this week, as on Thursday only 11 players were fit enough to train.

Adam Virgo will be desperate to play against his former club, but is a doubt for the game with a groin injury that forced him off early against the Owls last week.

Captain Craig Alcock who replaced the injured Virgo, aggravated his back injury that had kept him out of action previous to that, whilst Gavin Williams is said to be 'playing through the pain' with his ankle injury resulting in the influential midfielder's ankle swelling up at half-time.

Speaking to BBC Radio Somerset Skiverton summed up his injury concerns, suggesting that certain players involvement will go right down to the wire:

"They (Virgo, Alcock and Gavin Williams) haven't trained today. Then to add to that list, we've got Stefan Stam, obviously Danny Hutchins is out, Sam Williams hasn't trained all week, whilst Nathan Smith's first day was today. So today I think we had eleven players out there on the top pitch. So it's not ideal. It seems to keep on going every week at the moment, and we're not getting in the training that we want to do. But you've got to improvise and they're all keeping themselves fit in a non-impact sort of way and hopefully we can get them into the game. There will be fitness tests tomorrow and on Saturday morning to see who is fit and who is available."

Recent meetings between the two sides have favoured the Glovers, who have won five, drawn two and lost two in their previous nine games.

Yeovil are going for a third consecutive away win after previously defeating Walsall and Rochdale. However, the Seagulls will prove to be a tougher opponent, after a storming start to the season which has seen them win seven games and lose just once.

Tickets are not available on the day but you can listen to the match on BBC Radio Somerset 99.5FM.
