Yeovil Town reacted well to Saturday's dismal performance to earn a much deserved point at home to Southampton.

Yeovil Town hope to have got their season back on track with a much improved performance against a struggling Southampton side.

Coming into the game Yeovil made only one change. With Luke Ayling coming in for Stefan Stam who dropped to the bench, with Virgo resorting back to centre half allowing Ayling to play at right back. The only other change saw Cameron Stewart come into the squad for Luke Freeman. 

The game began energetically with Southampton dominating early possession. However, they failed to create any meaningful chances and arguably should have been made to pay.

Andy Williams who taunted left-back Dan Harding all night went round the defender only seemingly to be pulled to the ground inside the box. Something which referee Simon Hooper waved away much to the disbelief of players and fans of Yeovil alike. 

Although it was the Saints who would go closest, when Rickie Lambert found space in the box to unleash a powerful shot which cannoned of the bar and down seemingly onto the line. The Southampton players appealed the ball had gone over the line but with neither official up with the speed of play the appeals were waved away.

With the rain beginning to lash down so did the quality of football, with both sides now misplacing passes on a regular basis.

Shaun MacDonald almost made the most of the weather when he venomous effort caught out Kelvin Davies who almost fumbled the effort into the goal only for the ball to dribble out for a corner. 

Next to try was Dean Bowditch who found space well after linking up with Gavin Williams. Although his shot went narrowly wide of the target thanks to a deflection. 

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Southampton

The second half began with great intent from the Glovers who almost took the lead when Shaun MacDonald played Andy Williams through on the right wing who must have been surprised to see 'keeper Kelvin Davies running out at him. Williams rounded him and saw his effort brilliantly headed off the line by Radhi Jaidi saving Davies' blushes. 

A moment of poor defending saw the Saints take the lead, when Morgan Schneiderlin was allowed to run from the half way line to the Yeovil box unopposed before laying off to Guly Do Prado who made no mistake. 0-1.

But the Glovers reacted well and just nine minutes later they were back on level terms. Gavin Williams ran into the Southampton box and was clearly hauled down by Daniel Seaborne- this time resulting in a penalty and lengthy treatment for Williams.

Although, the player who put the ball on the spot was none other than central defender Adam Virgo. Any worries were quickly disbanded when the defender clinically sent the 'keeper the wrong way sending the ball into the bottom corner. 1-1.

The final minutes of the game was a nervy affair, with Guly again going close for the Saints whilst Yeovil were seemingly happy to defend. The post was once again struck and Rickie Lambert squandered a glorious chance with a free-kick just twenty yards out. 

The game finished 1-1 in a much improved performance. However, they learnt that they had slipped into the bottom four and now will have to prove they can do the business away from home as they travel to Walsall. But they will do so with increased spirits and raised hopes.
