Squad Rebuilding?

The situation with Vinny Samways and the current injury and suspension crisis seems to signify a look at the squad resources, judging by the rumours. Let's have a look at what rumours have surfaced recently.

Kelvin Jack. His agent is suggesting that negotiations are taking place with a view to signing the Jamaican International keeper, who now has enough caps so a work permit should not present any difficulties. With Walker out of contract in the Summer and no prospect of a testimonial to keep him here this time, this one looks a likely possibility, assuming terms can be agreed.

Zigor Aranalde. The rumour was, of course, that Derby had bid for him and we asked for more money. This is a possibility, on the assumption we would have needed cash to sign Vincent, but doesn't look as likely as some of the others.

Michael Boulding. Pacy, a proven goalscorer at this level and subject of a big(ish) money transfer to Villa not that long ago, what wouldn't the fans pay for him? Out of contract in the Summer, Grimsby want to cash in now, as their financial situation worsens and want £45,000 for him. If Mr Bonsor is financing this, I might believe it, but not otherwise, as I don't see where we'd get the money from (unless a fee for Samways?) and Derby are reputed to be in the running with the money from the sale of Lee Morris and can offer higher wages.

And the latest? Scoop, on UTS (possibly SteveO in a new guise, so the info tends to be good) says we are in negotiations with Craig Ziadie, a Jamaican International full back (either side, but maninly right) from the New York Metrostars. This again looks possible, as Bazeley's loss of form continues.

Whatever the truth of the rumours, the number of them suggests moves are afoot to freshen up the squad for the rest of the season.
