Despite being told of this potential transfer over a month ago, I failed to reveal this ‘exclusive’ at the time, as I could not quite understand why he would join a struggling side. I guess money talks, and being a hero at Coventry City doesn't pay the bills as well as it could. 

McGoldrick has swapped the chance to be part of a play-off challenge in League One, for a relegation battle in the Championship, with the potential for his previous temporary club to swap places with his new one come the summer. Here’s hoping.

Not only that, but he has passed up the opportunity to smash a number of goal-scoring records for the side who gave him a chance when it seemed plenty of others didn’t want to know. His record of scoring in eight consecutive away fixtures for Coventry City will take some beating, and he could easily have hit 30 goals in League One (Then taken his pick of 'decent' clubs).

McGoldrick scored 17 goals in 24 appearances (Plus one as a substitute) for Coventry City. He scored three in his first nine appearances for the club, before finding the sort of form that meant it was always going to be difficult for Coventry City to hold onto his services: fifteen goals in seventeen games (A record that could have been even better had it not been for some visually impaired match officials).

His new side, Ipswich, are currently five points off the bottom three in the Championship (One place above Birmingham City, who have another former CCFC striker, who thought the grass was greener, on their books). His first game could be against Aston Villa (In the FA Cup), with his first potential league game away to table-topping Cardiff.

McGoldrick trotted out all the usual plaudits upon joining the Tractor Boys, as in: ‘big club’; ‘Mick McCarthy’; ‘great to be here’. Yawn.
