Coventry Telegraph Article 1 Season 2011/12

The following article was written and submitted before a saviour was signed. No pressure on Cody McDonald, but his signing has re-lit my enthusiasm for all things Coventry City....

Being a Coventry City fan at the moment is like being in a naff relationship you just can't quite finish. You're not overly sure why you don't just walk away, but you can't quite bring yourself to do it. That said, if new investment isn't found by the time next summer comes around, it will probably be ended for us....

Even the most optimistic of supporters cannot see many positives this time, and we are surely at the lowest point in the club's history? (No ground, no money, and a wafer thin squad, in danger of getting thinner). The international break, so no game this weekend (Meaning, obviously, no defeat!), is about it.

Bigirimana and Christie are also positives, but the chances of people just out of school carrying the team (Presuming, in the case of Bigirimana, he isn't sold off), is a very big ask. Players such as Baker and Bell should be doing far more - in the case of the former, staying on the pitch would be a start.

By the time this article goes to print, the transfer window will have closed, and, unless SISU are going to stun us with half-a-dozen 'here's some players we bought with money we found down the back of the sofa', late, quality signings, most supporters can't see past the team finishing bottom of the pile.

As for incoming, presuming Parkin signs, the slowest team in English football will have just got slower. I've only ever seen or heard of him out-pacing one defence ever .... and that was ours. I don't want to criticise a player before he has (Possibly) kicked a ball for us, but he's not the answer to any question asked so far.

Ben Turner looks as good as gone, though I'm not sure how much he will missed. He looked an absolute liability before last season, then came back a totally different player before getting injured (With what might be his last match for us, against Leeds last season, being one of the best individual displays by a Coventry player last season). Interesting to know which version gets off the treatment table for whichever club he ends up at.

Jutkiewicz is attracting interest too, and, with mentions of Keogh and Clingan also attracting interest, you have to wonder exactly which sales would have to go through before Andy Thorn says 'enough is enough', and steps down? As first jobs in management go, it's a tough baptism!

As positive as I've always tried to be since the club moved to the Ricoh regarding said ground, I give in, and can now only see it as a massive, massive error (Very late to the party with that one!). The move should have been 101% dependant on the train station being built, and the 'stench of negativity' (As mentioned by Gary MacAllister) should also have been left behind. It's still here, worse than ever.

The pubs for drowning your sorrows were far more plentiful, and closer, to the old place too!

The two-for-one ticket offer for the fixture against Derby deserves rewarding by supporters, but the way things currently are, I doubt many people will take up the offer. Go along and support the team, or go along and protest. Just make sure you go along. Your football club needs you....
