Coventry City were denied a much needed home win after a joke decision by the day’s referee, and a late equaliser by McLeod.

The opening half saw Coventry City play some of their best football of the season so far, and graze the post so many times that the club maintenance man was forced to re-paint them at half-time.

Sadly for the home side, they only managed to put away one of the first-half chances they created, with a quality pass from Bailey releasing McSheffrey, who for once didn’t waste a one-on-one chance against Pompey keeper Cisak.

Edjenguele had two quality goal-bound efforts early in the second half, with one of them possibly crossing the line – if only football would or could introduce some sort of goal-line technology….

McGoldrick was denied yet another goal, and Coventry City a probable three points, by a dismal refereeing decision. TV pictures and still images show not only was McGoldrick not offside when Baker had his original shot, but he also still wasn’t offside when the ball came back to him off the woodwork.

Those that were properly paying attention also noticed the linesman run towards the half-way line, which means he obviously thought the goal should have stood. And yet, for some reason, the day’s referee in his infinite wisdom….

As is often the case when such ridiculous decisions are given, rather than going on to win, as they should have, Coventry City were caught by a sucker punch late into injury time, when Wood and Murphy left a ball to each other, and McLeod nipped in to score.

Said injury time was mainly given after a farcical five minute hold-up, as the inadequate referee tried to work out exactly what should happen when a back-pass is picked up by a (Stupid) goalkeeper.

TEAM: Murphy, Christie, Adams, Edjenguele, Wood, Baker, Jennings, Moussa, Bailey, McSheffrey (Barton 78), McGoldrick. SNU: Dunn, Clarke, Cameron, Fleck, O'Donovan, McDonald.
