Pedro scores!

The Premiership leaders showed Liverfools how to successfully cope with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup, but they had to weather a Midlands storm for an hour before prevailing eventually against tired legs. The story might have been drastically different if the hosts had not hit the post with an early effort. In fact, Chelsea were all at sea for large portions of the contest, and it would have been no injustice if Wolves had led at half time. However, when the underdogs don't translate their dominance into goals, then their endeavours are always liable to end in tears - and so it proved.

It took an exquisite cross from Willian to tee up the criminally unmarked Pedro to accurately place his header into the net. A red hot Pedro is fast becoming one of the first names on his manager's team sheet, and although he was unwisely selected at left wing back, he is now halfway towards Osgood's 1970 milestone of scoring in every round. While Pedro proved to be an unconvincing understudy for Marcus Alonso, the visitors also struggled with a makeshift defence and a second string midfield. If we learned anything from this encounter, it was just how valuable the rested Azpilicueta, Kante, and Luiz truly are. Well, at least Begovic collected a clean sheet and Diego Costa returned to scoring ways, but Chelsea will know that this was a great result but by no means a great performance.
