Fabregas's free kick

Cesc Fabregas proved himself to be the king of the set pieces, as he twice cancelled out West Ham leads with a solo dead ball effort. First time around, CF brilliantly curled a direct free kick into the top corner of the net, after Lanzini had fired the Hammers into an early lead. Then in the dying minutes, the Blues won a dubious penalty which the Spanish maestro duly converted, thereby preserving our unbeaten Premiership run under the management of old Hiddink. More importantly the late penalty deprived our nice friends from the east end of a rare league double against us.

So what have we learnt from yet another home draw? Well, the way we were carved open for Andy Carroll's second-half strike is a reminder of our defensive vulnerability, while Courtois again failed to distinguish himself by being beaten at his near post. Of course it was the cosmic Oscar who conceded possession in the first place. Please Chelsea brains trust, don't be overdosing on more Brazilian sensations this summer!

We also may have found a new penalty-taker, which comes as some relief, after the inaccuracies of the absent Hazard and also Oscar. We got a reminder too of our great team spirit that facilitated two equalisers and happily robbed them of two crucial points. However, most alarming of all, we learnt that fighting back to grab a two-two draw at home to West Ham is a fine achievement. That is a measure of how far we have fallen and how far they have progressed. Whether Wet Sham's ascendancy over us is merely a one-year phenomenon remains to be seen.
