In a horrible match at Badison Park, Romelu Lukaku finally achieved the inevitable by dumping on the club that rejected him. Chelsea had dominated an ill-tempered occasion but rarely looked like scoring. In fact, as the contest progressed, it was becoming apparent that the toothless London club might get mugged - and so it proved. As a consequence of this awful cup exit, Chelsea now find themselves going into the second half of March with no silverware or European place up for grabs for the first time since 1993!
Evil Everton, for this is what they are, simply did their homework by provoking the easily provoked Costa. The latter eventually got himself sent off and may well be answering a charge of biting an opponent. It was probably the only bite that Chelsea displayed in the fixture, as their surplus of possession amounted to very little in the final third. Indeed the boo boys got a taste of life after Hazard, as the Belgian was sorely missed. The deputising Pedro, I'm afraid, just isn't a patch on Eden. As I have stated before, the raspberries are being blown at the wrong Belgian. While David De Gea bails ManUre out time and again, our last line of defence seems incapable of pulling off any magic saves or miracle stops. If the hyped Courtois is deemed to have had little chance with either of Lukaku's precision finishes, then clearly he needs to re-position himself so that he gives himself a chance in such situations. Either that or he re-positions himself on our bench.
Elsewhere Matic had bossed the cup tie but without terrorising the opposition, while Mikel looked comfortable. Even Cahill was having a stormer, but Cahill wouldn't be Cahill if he didn't do something wrong, and after 'Dave' allowed himself to be bundled off the ball by Lukaku, GC was turned inside out by the big Belgian, as he opened up the scoring with less than fifteen minutes remaining.
Furthermore, young Kenedy, bless him, is definitely not a left back. He was constantly getting caught out of position and he permitted Aaron Lennon to cruise past him and into the penalty area on one occasion.
Finally, let's speak about our dastardly conquerors. Evershit were nothing to write home about - except that they defended with great gusto. Robles in fact didn't have a save to make, except for tipping a Willian free kick over the bar. However what really left a bitter taste in the mouth was how the second best team in Liverpool fouled repeatedly and broke the world record for the most fouls committed before being shown a yellow card. Gareth Barry deserves special mention for his cry baby antics that prompted the bookings of the Spanish duo of Costa and then Fabregas. Eventually after Costa had been given his marching orders, Barry too was finally dismissed. No doubt he received a pat on the back from his manager who obviously instructed his team to hassle and even kick lumps out of the opposition.
One can only hope that evil Evercrap don't prevail in the FA Cup. In the season of the underdog, it would be great to see Watford avenge their cup final defeat of 1984. I would gladly settle for a Community Shield in August bizarrely contested between Leicester City and Watford. At least we can console ourselves ever so slightly that Arsenil's season is all but finished too.
Oh well. All that remains now is for mid-table Chelsea to play some youngsters in the final weeks and spoil Tottenham Hotspur's quest for Premiership glory and perhaps send Manchester City into the Europa League. Otherwise it is just pre-season already, unless the team can muster enough character to get revenge against high-flying Wet Sham. Whatever comings and goings take place this summer, Emenalo has to be the first to walk the plank. His shambolic recruitment decisions are a big part of Chelsea's current decline.
