It may 'only' have been MK Dons, but the English champions ran riot against a very obliging defence. Were it not for a combination of fine goalkeeping and bad finishing, the away team could have doubled their goals tally. Nevertheless it was an afternoon of firsts. The maverick Oscar bagged his first Chelsea hat trick. Young Bertrand Traore came on as a substitute and promptly recorded his first goal for his club. Finally, most miraculous of all, the misfiring Eden Hazard belatedly scored his first goal of the season, on the last day of January, albeit from the penalty spot.

Now Chelsea are rewarded for their goalscoring endeavours with a home tie against Premiership-chasing Manchester Mercenaries. Sergio Aguero is back in form for them, so we might have wished that we had saved three of the goals from this skirmish for the visit of Manchester Wannabes in three weeks' time. 

After the match, it was also revealed that John Terry is not being offered a new contract and therefore his legendary stint at Stamford Bridge appears to be drawing to a close. A lot of silly folk have taken to social media, bewailing the imminent loss of JT. However, legends all move on eventually. The roof did not cave in when Jose had to walk the plank, and similarly Chelsea will survive the departure of John. Blimey, there are some people who would gladly like to see Bonetti, Harris, and Terry play for Chelsea in perpetuity. Such stupidity. Anyhow, let us hope that captain fantastic can get a glorious send-off in May, courtesy of a Champions League triumph, or more realistically another FA Cup success. Unfortunately, the teams that are left in the competition are a big improvement on the punchbags of MK Dons.
