Chelsea earned themselves an away tie at either MK Dons or Northampton in the fourth round of the FA Cup, courtesy of a home win against Scunthorpe which was not actually as comfortable as the scoreline might suggest. The vanquished, to their credit, gave a very good account of themselves and could count themselves unlucky not to have scored, not least when they should have been awarded a second-half penalty.

Eventually, Chelsea reasserted themselves, and the half-time replacement, young Loftus-Cheek recorded his first goal for the senior side. One hopes that it will be the first of many for our prodigy. Why I might ask must we express an interest in signing Paul Pogba for an extortionate amount, when we've now got our very own Pogba in our midst? Presumably, Ruben will now be upgraded from sixty-second cameos to a lofty fifteen minutes from the end substitute appearance! Oh well. Rome wasn't built in one day, and Chelsea will persist with their strange policy of keeping their talented youth at arm's length instead of warmly embracing them into the bosom of the erratic first team.

The champions of England are now on a roll, unbeaten in five fixtures. Can they do the unthinkable and win twice in succession in the Premiership when the Baggies pay a visit on Wednesday evening? Stranger things have happened!
