Latest news:

Hodgson a possibility for England manager

West Bromwich Albion boss Roy Hodgson is the latest person to be linked with the vacant England managers job.  Speculation continues as to who will succeed Fabio Capello, and although Spurs boss Harry Redknapp still looks favourite for the job in the summer, the recent fortunes of West Brom have caught more than a few wondering eyes.

Just a month after his very public departure from Liverpool, Hodgson was offered the challenge of preventing yo-yo club West Bromwich Albion from suffering yet another relegation to the Championship.  A task that had been beyond the popular Tony Mowbray and seemingly too much for young manager Roberto Di Matteo.

Objective achieved, things seemed to take a turn for the worst during Albion's start to this Premiership campaign, which saw them win just one in seven of their opening fixtures, and perhaps even worse than that, a home form which absolutely smacked of relegation form.  But the transformation in recent weeks at the Midlands club has been quite amazing.  Sitting 12th in the Premier League, the club have lost just once in six games, securing 3 back to back impressive victories over Wolves, Sunderland and Chelsea - a run of form which has seen Hodgson, whose current deal at the Hawthorns expires this summer, linked with the England job.

With 35 years managerial experience he might not be a bad choice either, although he will have to prove his worth over first choice Harry Redknapp, whose Spurs side have seen a tumble in fortunes since he was linked with the job last month.  Hodgson himself admitts that the England job is not impossible, having declared this week "I do not rule myself out" - words which have struck the fear of god into West Brom fans.  Even more worrying for Albion fans far and wide is the fact that Hodgson's current deal is set to expire just before the start of the this years Euro's, and at the age of 64, would Hodgson see the opportunity to manage England his crowning glory?

Roy Hodgson has indeed been appointed as England manager until 2016, so hopefully he will finally be the manager to get England to scale heights not reached for several years.
