Shearer slams Capello England era

Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer has slammed England boss Fabio Capello, stating that the country have made absolutely zero progress since he took over two and a half years ago.  Shearer has criticised Capello's team selections, questioning whether even Fabio himself has understood any of the logic in some of his formations.

Shearer told press this week after England's 2-1 defeat to France in a friendly at Wembley; "If every England player was fit I'm not sure he would actually know what system he wanted to play or what team he wanted to play".

The ex England forward, who won 63 caps during his international career also believes that England fans need to be more realistic in their expectations.  He told BBC 5 live, "We always put so much pressure on our players that we go into every tournament wanting and expecting to win the tournament. Is that fair? I'm not sure it is".

Shearer questioned what the youngsters coming through were being taught, or how they were taught even.  But he believes it could be some time before the England squad can ever realistically compete for a major trophy.

Feel Shearer has a point.

I used to move heaven and hell to make sure i never missed an Engalnd game, Now I'm not bothered if i watch them or not.

Its like the players dont seem to care, so why the @#$%& should I? and Cappello is at the heart of it, he epitamizes what is wrong with the English game at the moment.

Have to agree with yer mate, used to love getting ready for the England games, only to be dissapointed after the hype. Is it Capello though ?
He has the credentials of that there is no doubt. Think you have hit the nail on the head, ref The players not caring. In the old days it was pride, and a privelege to wear the shirt. Now £100,000 plus a week players see it as a hinderence. Certainly Managers do. Please only play him for half an hour, Please don't pick him etc. etc

Agree with all you've said here. I feel another disappointment coming on with Euro 2012
