Carragher: England under pressure

England defender Jamie Carragher insists that his side will not give into the pressure, despite not getting off to the dream start against the USA yesterday. A howler of a mistake by keeper Robert Green gifted the USA a 40th minute equaliser, a point which England had to settle for after being unable to break through the American's during the second half.

But Carragher admitts that England will be under immense pressure, having been tipped to top Group C before the tournament.  The defender claimed that yesterday's 1-1 draw was not a disaster, but despite England's best efforts to ignore the pressure Carragher knows that the weight of expectation during the next two fixtures has the potential to be crushing.

Carragher commended his team mates, and believes that their ability to deal with pressure at top Premiership clubs will see them well through the remainder of the group fixtures.

The Liverpool defender also jumped to the defence of keeper Rob Green, insisting that fans should not blame the West Ham keeper for England's result.  He commented that "We also had the better chances in the second half to win it but that's the way it goes sometimes."

His stupid booking was as bad as Greens mistake, and was lucky he never got sent off for a second and third offence.
Ok Green cost us, but it could be Green talking about him.
