Albion have been given the go-ahead to alk to West Ham midfielder Michael Carrick. Portsmouth, Everton and Arsenal have all been in the hunt for the midfielder.

A fee has already been agreed with West Ham for Carrick and it is now down to the player to agree personal terms.

Gary Megson said: "There is a bit of negotiating to be done, not from our point of view, but to see if Michael actually wants to join any club. We've spoken to West Ham and that's as far as it's gone.

Megson is still keen to bring in Anderlecht striker Aruna Dindane. "We are trying to get an agreement with Anderlecht for Dindane's services but we are not there yet," said Megson.
