Chelsea did just enough to see off the surprisingly feeble challenge from Burnley in this Thursday night non-event, thereby consolidating our likely fifth position finish whilst also finally defeating a team that we have had considerable problems with in the recent past. One could almost have described Burnley as our bogey team, but the way we have been playing since January, everyone has become our bogey team.

Peculiarly, sulky Conte belatedly decided to play two strikers up top. The experiment was scarcely a raving success what with Giroud again reminding us that he seems more suited to being an impact substitute and Morata producing one of his trademark howlers when put clean through on goal. The latter who will insist on aiming his shots outside of the posts left the proceedings a deeply frustrated and petulant figure. Named alongside Bakayoko as one of the players in the season's most disappointing eleven, darling Alvaro is wearing the supporters' patience very thin.

In the end it was left to Victor Moses to be the unlikely hero after his cross had caused the first goal and his shot from close range had restored our lead after we customarily conceded a goal from nowhere. An honourable mention is also granted to the stand-in left wing back Emerson who put in a really solid shift. Two away wins inside a week ought to be the springboard for a successful semi final outing this Sunday. Surely not even this hapless Chelsea bunch can stuff it up against the even worse Southampton!
