Yet another characteristically unconvincing win (a recurring theme) has seen Chelsea through to the last eight of the League Cup and another home engagement, this time with Bournemouth. Only Liverfools have won the League Cup more times, and Chelsea look well placed to add to their five triumphs. They certainly didn't have it all their own way against struggling, manager-less Evercrap. In fact, after big Rudiger scored with a towering header from a short corner, the hosts toiled thereafter and were frequently forced to defend against a makeshift Everton team. Quite frankly, the Blues were made to look like the away team, feeding off scraps of possession and relying once more upon the counter attack.

Oh well. At least the lesser spotted Drinkwater finally made his first outing in a Chelsea shirt. Young Ethan Ampadu made his first start for the senior team, while Willian finally opened his goals account for the season with a well-taken strike in added on time. Even Caballero acquitted himself well. Chelsea, whilst boasting over fifteen different goal scorers already this season, still seem to be all over the place. One can only hope that an eventual reunion of Drinkwater and Kante may bring some stability to the middle of the park. The team remains potent going forward and impotent when defending.
