Another Brilliant Costa Effort

It took the league leaders until the seventy-sixth minute to break down a determined West Bromwich defence, but the goal was well worth waiting for. It came almost inevitably from our season-long inspiration, Diego Costa. The bandit, awarded the November Player Of The Month, stamped his influence upon December too with a fine solo strike against the Baggies. After Fabregas had knocked a hopeful punt down the right channel, Costa managed to dispossess McAuley before advancing into the box and sweetly lifting his left-footed shot over the despairing dive of Ben Foster.

Funnily enough, Foster was not called upon to make any save of note either before or after the goal. Instead, his team demonstrated the very best (or very worst) bus parking antics conceivable, from a well-drilled back six through to time wasting. Perhaps the result was a bit harsh on the visitors who had stifled the hosts so effectively, but then again it is good to see the attacking team get rewarded for their attempted enterprise instead of the defensive unit being rewarded for little more than sheer bloody-mindedness. Mind you, the Baggies did occasionally provide attacks which had the home contingent shuffling nervously in their seats.

In the end, it proved to be another clean sheet and crucial three points, emphasised by Liverfools' inability to win for the second successive Sunday. Now only an in-form Arsenic seem likely to stand between Chelsea and further Premiership glory. The efforts of the terrible twins of Manchester plus the Tottenham wannabes remain as erratic as ever, so the opportunity is there to cash in. The Premiership favourites now have an engagement at Sunderland on Wednesday evening where they have the chance to take their Premiership winning sequence to a gobsmacking ten. Who would bet against this?
