Fans waking up to the Sunday papers will be shocked by the news that Striker Michael Owen has undergone a second operation in Germany for a nagging groin problem, thought to have been dealt with the last time he had surgery in September 2007. In 2007 Dr Ulrike Muschaweck performed a double groin operation on Owen at his clinic in Munich, it is said that Owen, who was already ruled out through an ankle injury took the opportunity to seek more treatment with the clubs approval.
The additional recovery needed means that Owen's proposed return day have changed from the beginning of March to the 14th when he is hoping to be fit enough to play against Hull City.
Owen has played 52 games for Newcastle and scored 26 league goals since his arrival 4 years ago.
