Newcastle United FC have confirmed that Andy Carroll has resumed training after landing awkwardly in the Derby match against Sunderland and injuring his ankle. The 20 year old, who missed the game against West Brom and an International match is said to be near to resuming full training and is hoping to return to action for next weekend's match at the Reebok Stadium. Hughton told the nufc.co.uk

"Andy is very close to coming back. We're expecting him to resume full training at the end of this week or the start of next week.

That's another big plus for us and it gives us more options. I think Everton is too soon for him but certainly for the Bolton game away."

The 6'4 striker, who is contracted to Newcastle for another 2 seasons, has been given a great opportunity this season to make an impression at the club after Michael Owen, Shola Ameobi, Obafemi Martins and Mark Viduka all picked up injuries.
