Player Ratings: Blackburn v Newcastle

A poor 2nd half, and a real lack of fight cost us the points in this fixture. It was very disappointing, as this was against a team below us on the log. We need to make some signings soon, because although we still a few places away from the relegation zone, we are looking like a team who deserve to be in that zone.

Some nice moves here and there, but the way we played in the 2nd half, we deservedly came away with nothing. Can't say much more than that.

Positives
* Carrolls performance
* Barton back from injury.

Negatives
* Butt's red card.
* Key points lost.
* Lack of fight shown.
* No response after going behind.

Blackburn match player ratings

Shay Given (6) - Made a superb save from McCarthy, but quite frankly his too good to still be playing for our poor club. Can't be blamed for any of the goals either.

David Edgar (5) - Gave the ball away, as well as a careless challenge which led to the penalty. His just not a right back but we can't blame him for being plaped out of position.

Fabricio Coloccini (5) - Played a superb ball to N'Zogbia in the build up to a chance for Owen, which is vision our attackers have been lacking. Couldn't handle Blackburn's attackers though.

Sebastien Bassong (5) - Lost the key header in the build up to the 2nd goal, while he was also ball watching for the 3rd goal.

Jose Enrique (6) - Started the game well, with a neat trick early on as well. Had a good game although he was partly to blame for the 3rd goal.

Damien Duff (5) - Poor set pieces again from him, which is disappointing, as we know he is capable of better. Did play a good through ball for Owen which we should have done better with.

Danny Guthrie (6) - Decent game from him, with good passing. We needed him to be on the ball more.

Nicky Butt (5) - For such an experienced player, he should have known better than to get sent off. I suppose it was frustration but he also missed a good chance so a deserved low rating for him. Pity though, because apart from that he had a decent game.

Charles N'Zogbia (5) - Not a bad game but looked less interested after we fell behind. I would cash in on him in truth.

Andy Carroll (7) - He did well again. A constant threat in the air, and was lively. Had a header cleared off the line, but put himself about.

Michael Owen (5.5) - Missed some chances for us, and his confidence seems low. We needed more from our captain.

Substitutes

Barton (N/A) - Wasn't on long enough to get a rating.

Gutierrez (N/A) - Wasn't on long enough to get a rating.

Yeah I thought Carroll was our Man of the Match. I also didn't understand why we didn't bring Gutierrez on earlier, or even Barton for that matter.We now don't play for another 10 days, atleast that allows for injured players to come back and may be a few new signings to be part of the squad. Then again its Newcastle we talking about and we may have sold key players by then!

I'd give Coloccini, Edgar and Jose Enrique a 4. Butt deserves a 6 he was probably close to our best player.
