No More Heroes Anymore (Fernando Torres)

The Stranglers anthem sticks in my mind, the cynical masterpiece of Thatcher’s material, money grabbing Britain, now screams to us.  It shatters the romantic, nostalgic love affair, football fans have with their players.

Past generations had working class heroes, legends who gained the respect and devotion by their deeds on and off the pitch. For the rest of their lives the room would stand when they entered, respect was bestowed upon them.

Torres we thought understood our mentality; our culture. He pressed all our buttons with great sincerity. He was unlucky to arrive at our door at the worst of times, and no one would have blamed him for leaving.  Leaving in the right way though, not in the scheming underhand manner he did.

Showing no respect for my club has totally stained his good name. No standing ovations for Nando on his return I hope, no booing either. He’s gone and we have already moved on.

I can understand him wishing to go..... if it had been the end of the current season, Liverpool had finished out of Europe, not having signed a player of note in the January window or showed signs of vast improvement under Kenny.
It is the timing of the move, plus his subsequent comments that have totally undone all the good work he has done in what was/is an average Liverpool side.
Hopefully time will show he jumped ship far too soon.
Wont stop me cheering if/when he scores against Yernited, mind!
