2009/2010 fixtures released

Leigh Genesis’ first season in the UniBond League Division One North is drawing ever nearer, and it’s certainly feeling a lot closer with the release of the club’s fixtures for the 2009/2010 season. First up for Genesis is a trip to East Lancashire to face Rossendale United, who finished bottom of the pile last season but were reprieved of relegation given the demise of Newcastle Blue Star, on Saturday 15th August, with Leigh's first home game being pencilled in against Curzon Ashton, Leigh's FA Cup conquerors of last season, on Wednesday 19th August. However, this game has yet to be confirmed and as such the likelihood is that Leigh's first LSV league fixture of the season will come against Garforth Town on Saturday 22nd August.

Late August throws up two games in three days, both of which take place against Warrington Town, with Leigh visiting Cantilever Park for an FA Cup tie on Saturday 29th August, before the Wire visit the Sports Village on Bank Holiday Monday 31st August.

Leigh's ‘European' tie of the season comes on Saturday 28th November with the trip to face Colwyn Bay in North Wales, while after several years of lengthy Festive journeys, the traditional holiday derbies see a return, with Leigh hosting Skelmersdale United on Boxing Day before visiting Warrington Town on New Years' Day.

The potentially crucial tail end of the season sees two of the last three games coming at the Sports Village, with the final match of the campaign seeing local rivals Prescot Cables, Leigh's final opponents at Hilton Park, come to Leigh.

Is it just me, or have we only got 40 games listed and not 42?

Prize goes to the first one to name both fixtures that are missing somewhere in the UniBond's offices!

On the official site there are "queries" against 3 games, these are Curzon home and away 19 Aug and 16 Jan and Harrogate RA 6 Oct. Does anyone know why??

Think the Curzon games may be switched, but don't ask me why or whether it will happen!

Query on Harrogate RA is that it is listed as the Tuesday rather than the Wednesday, so just a matter of getting it put back 24 hours.

Had a feeling that was the reason but actually thought the 'Fax game was earlier in the month. That'd explain it then.

It does, yes, which explains the absence of any scheduled midweek games in 2010. Almost seems as though the UniBond have shown a bit of common sense!

We're missing the Woodley Sports away fixture and I think the Chorley Away fixture aswell

Congratulations, you miss a lock of Bobbert's hair.

For some reason, they weren't listed on the UniBond list but, by the process of elimination, the dates are now listed.
