The ghosts of campaigns past are walking the corridors of Molineux rattling their chains that threaten to keep Wolves firmly fixed in the Championship wilderness. A growing injury list, transfer market inactivity. inconsistentcy on
the pitch and unrest in the stands are all hallmarks of Wolves’ promotion
campaigns destined to end in failiure.

Apart from one.

In 2002 Wolves season ended having achieved their goal of Premiership
status through the Play Off Finals. And it hadn’t been all plain sailing.

In August 2001 feelings were riding high. Having led the league for so
much of the previous season, only to find despair in the play off lottery,
fans were expecting success. A mediocre start to the campaign saw us
with 27 points at the beginning of November and only taking a further 10 that year. In February a 4-1 loss to Brighton invited stern words from The Board regarding Dave Jones future. Things were looking bleak.

But then the team rallied. Senior players stood up to be counted and
results, and importantly performances improved, We lost only once more in the league that season, culminating in the demolition of Neil Warnocks Sheffield United in Cardiffs Millenium Stadium.

Can we do it again? I still think so. Tomorrow may give us an indication of wether this season we have the desire to get back top the top, a desire some think this team will never possess.

Time will tell.
