Its the news Wolves fans have been waiting for. After months of negotiations its official. Joleon Lescott is staying! The 23 year old defensive rock penned a new deal today that will see him stay at Molineux until at least 2008.

Lescott, a pre season target for several Premiership managers including Arsene Wenger said

"I was very flattered to see my name linked to some big clubs, but it was just speculation. I want to play top flight football with Wolves."

"I'm gratefull to the club for recognising my achievments and rewarding me with this new contract... Ive always had a good relationship with the club and the fans and I want to stay here and play in The Premiership for Wolves."

Lescott, a product of the clubs Centre Of Excellence has represented England at under 18, under 20, and Under 21 and has established himself as the heart of Wolves defence. Twice voted Young Player Of The Year, and a member of the team that beat Sheffield United in the 2002/3 Play Off Final he missed Wolves brief stint in The Premiership after undergoing surgery on both knees, but made 43 appearances last season, and has been ever present this term.

Glenn Hoddle echoed what Wolves fans  have always known when he said

"He's a very, very good player, a good proffesional and if he keeps learning, he can become a great one."

Many Legends have pulled on the famous Old Gold Shirt, Billy Wright, Steve Bull, Derek Dougan are only a few and Lescott is heading in the right direction if he wants to join that special black country club.
