SUNDERLAND have dropped their interest in Striker Kenny Miller and Molineux old boy Marc Edworthy has joined Derby County.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy has admitted that his new Premiership side had dropped interest in Wolves striker Kenny Miller after seeing two bids for the Scottish International rejected.

Wolves rejected two bids, believed to be £1.3M, despite Miller only having one year on his contract.

Wolves bosses declared that they would rather see Miller score 20 goals in the Championship - as he did last season - and go for nothing at the end of the season than sell him for £1.3M now.

Sunderland boss Mick McCarthy told the BBC "We made a bid, it has been turned down and that is it.

"We are not planning on going back and offering any more money, so as far as I am concerned, it is finished with."

However the news does not mean that boss Glenn Hoddle has turned his attention away from signing another striker. Hoddle has said he needs another striker, whether Miller stayed at Molineux or not and a seven figure bid is currently waiting to be accepted for a mystery forward.

MEANWHILE former Wolves defender Marc Edworthy has joined Derby County. Edworthy signed for Wolves on a free from Coventry in 2002 but was declared not good enough and released after making just 18 appearances.
