The Voice Of Molineux - By Brian Myrie

Dave Jones's precarious position

The weekend saw probably the first of the Premiership Managers to be forced out and you can guarantee that he will not be the last. The pressure on any Manager especially the Premiership is so immense that a run of 3 or 4 losses no matter how small the scoreline can create extreme anxiety for managers, fans and players.

The newspapers quick for a story are only too eager to jump on the bandwagon and before you know it the Manager has been sacked, hung, drawn and quartered. Look at poor old Bobby Robson at Newcastle he still has a great side, yet struggling at the foot of the Premiership table after doing so well last season. The papers are slowly chipping away after detecting he has started to lose the support of the local fans.

Well I detect that the Wolves fans are slowly but surely not willing to accept this position and even the players are starting to criticise other colleagues in the press. The logical target eventually even though it may not be his fault will be Dave Jones then the board. There is very little time to correct this situation because the Premiership plays so few matches compared to the other divisions.

Historically Dave Jones has at least some history to call upon where he took a Southampton side to October to record their first win after being stuck on one point throughout September.

He eventually saved Southampton from the drop where he swore that would never let that scenario happen to him again, well David I may be mistaken but you are letting it happen again and I don't think the fans are going to be so forgiving at Molineux. I am not going to list the Managers that have been hounded out by the fans turning against them but the list would make Ken Bates blush! The only areas that can give him some breathing space is the fact he got Wolves promoted to the Premiership, and regardless of what other teams have stated, that team was on a roll at the end of last season and Reading and Sheffield United just got in the way.

The other area that may be able to help Dave Jones through this period is if he can win one or two matches quickly or the team starts to play and act like they want to stay in this league. Some strange decisions have been made regarding the transfer market, the silence has been deafening at Molineux and there seems no active strategy in progress, apart from we will turn this around. Hey Guys! We are becoming the butt of jokes throughout the world not just in the UK and the fans would like some answers to why the performance from the team has seemed to be so gutless and without any real hint of preparation. If someone from Molineux could explain I for one would feel they understand how the fans feel at this time etc. Oh! By the way please decline all banquets and dinners commemorating last seasons promotion until we sort this mess out. The time for celebration is at the end of the season when we have saved ourselves from relegation. So please stay focused and show the fans you care!
