Molineux Way Prediction League 2025/26

By Ivybridge Wolf
August 2 2025

Well done to Andy again for his fine 2024/2025 Prediction League win! I would like to run the Prediction League for the Molineux Way again for 2025/2026 and have placed the general rules below.

I have always found the Prediction League fun and develops a good sense of rivalry, however to ensure the competition remains a viable contest, I propose that the League will be dependent on a minimum of 5 entries (including me!).

Whether you are a contributor, reader or have just found on this site, everyone is welcome, all I need is from you is to state your intention to join the competition by responding in the thread below.Thank you.

Fixtures are up for potential massive change this season with even more European matches and television screenings, so if you see anything that requires updating, then please let me know either by a private message (preferred as I will receive an email) or on this thread.

Rules

The rules are the same. 3 points for a correct full time score line and 1 point for predicting the correct outcome (win, lose or draw) which is a scoring system across Sportsnetwork.

Predictions can be made up to the point of kick off as defined in the prediction league itself.

Eligible matches will include all Wolves premier league fixtures, Wolves FA cup matches and Wolves league cup (EFL) matches. For cup matches, extra time / penalties are not included, that is the correct score will be the result at the end of 90 minutes - as has been the case previously.

As well as letting me know that you wish to enter, if you have any comments or questions about any aspect, please drop them in the thread below.

All the very best and good luck.

A reminder of how it finished last season!

BTW just putting it on record, there is too much emphasis on the correct score. As it stands in 15 matches you could have someone getting 5 correct scores and 10 wrong predictions finishing above someone predicting 14 out of 15 matches correctly with just 1 incorrect. That can't be right where a correct score is basically luck but it is what it is and will complete the season regardless.

It should really be 3 points for correctly predicting a home win/draw/ away win with just 1 point as a bonus for getting the correct score. It shifts the league into skill rather than luck which is why it is so congested in finishing positions each season. Don't get me started on the goal difference (Sm6)

You may have seen the prediction league table has thrown up an unusual league table where we all have the same GD ( Jon Stear) this in spite of differing predictions.

To better understand, can you let me know how you predicted which I can use to investigate!! Cheers

For the record I selected Wolves 0-2.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all who posted their scores from last week. If there were any glitches, hopefully they are sorted out for today ..... I passed on my concerns to the SportsNetwork team last Monday.

By then looks, everyone has entered a score for today's match at Bournemouth. For those who have predicted a Wolves win, you have my admiration, though of course, one of them could be me!

No great shock who has been leading the league from the first day of the season. Cries of you are going down with the pandy down with the PANDY ARE ECHOING around the various stadiums of Lupey and co. I've kept my club under British ownership, it seems like Fosun have taken over shares in some of your clubs

Lupy, the board has few enough members as it is without you getting triggered due to a bit of banter. We're mainly all middle aged now rattling around on here "shooting the breeze" regarding wolves/ football etc and you're clearly a far more conservative character than I am. If you talk about the Southampton manager as a credible choice to replace VP, I will call you out on it unless it was meant as sarcasm which it may have been.

Your style of posting tends to be " We need to win" and if we do it then becomes " Encouraging and now we need to take advantage of it" . If not it is " We're doomed" etc etc. I support freedom of speech on here so you're welcome to this robotic style, but I just say whatever I think - much of the time it could be utter rubbish who knows, but you have taken banter transforming it into a borderline personal attack. I don't have any personal issues with you, to me it's just a bit of fun on a messageboard which I post on for the sake of nostalgia than love of the sport - that said I shall win the prediction league again confirming my supremacy. Feel free to deny me of my crown.

No offence taken and I must admit that I look forward to your views, which, although they differ wildly from mine always have a blunt honesty about them albeit delivered in a style akin to full frontal assault. But each to their own and long may that be the case.
In regards to Still, and fully expecting us to be relegated this season, it would be refreshing to have a young English manager at the helm instead of the unending flow of continental failures. His record since he began his career is not at all shabby and given the resources that Wolves have compared to Saints I feel that he could, given time, be the breath of fresh air this club so badly needs. But it's all conjecture so who really knows.

Andy Pandy
19/10/2025 10:57
Steady on Lupes. Having a young English manager at the helm? We only got rid of O'Neil last season.

Lupy
19/10/2025 11:12
I fully appreciate that it would be a gamble Andy, but sometimes you just have to roll the dice. Would he be worse than VP? I doubt it. But let's face it, what coach with any modicum of ambition would now take the reins of this club which currently seems to be in free fall?

Lupy
19/10/2025 11:14
Unless Mendes has someone in mind of course. 🤫

I agree on the English manager point, but if he can barely get Southampton into the top half of the championship, it may be wise to look at alternative candidates. Southampton fans want him out given they were one of the favourites for promotion and languish in mid table obscurity in the 2nd tier.

I don't mind a foreign manager if he's talented, but given our squad is 99% foreign with foreign owners ( not just at Wolves) the balance has shifted to one which is unrecognisable with the English league. I used to think Sir Jack's view of needing a base English core was old fashioned and not in keeping with the modern game, but it's gone too far the other way now and clubs have lost their identity. I don't want to hear from Fosun about E sports in China or the ridiculous obsession we have with Portugese players, which was welcome at the time when we brought in Neves etc, but is now continuing with 2nd rate foreign players with no progression.

It isn't really a Wolves issue, it's a football issue with the obscene greed in the game coupled with other factors meaning the game isn't enjoyable any more. The Saturday afternoon for most of us is clicking "close" on adverts from some scantily clad trollop on a cam site to watch a match on a laptop. It can be ok short term for the odd match, but season after season drains the love of the sport without attending in person where the club has nothing to play for season after season bar survival

(Sm103) Why has the league not updated? It's been 2 matches soon to be 3. The inscribers of the league just want to get on putting my name on the damn thing. It's a 6 team league now - no idea who Jon Steer is but he will obviously finish bottom meaning the satisfaction of seeing the usual suspects relegated will be taken by him not completing the fixtures. The bottom 2 of 6 to go down unless anyone objects? (Sm56)

At this crucial part of the season, the current prediction league table is below:

Prediction League Standings 19 Apr 2026
Pos User Name P W D L F A GD Pts
1 An angry wolf 39 5 19 15 17 79 -62 34
2 Sheffield WWFC 39 4 14 21 19 89 -70 26
3 essington wolf 39 1 19 19 23 81 -58 22
4 Ivybridge Wolf 39 2 15 22 22 86 -64 21
5 Andy Pandy 39 1 16 22 11 90 -79 19
6 Lupy 39 1 13 25 23 107 -84 16

On 34 points, with just five matches left of the season, Anrgy’s lead of 8 points is going to be tough to catch for anybody. With 15 points up for grabs, it’s still possible, far more possible than Wolves catching West Ham, though that is not saying much.

Best of luck to everyone in the final run in!! UTW

It's pretty much a given I win the league every season (Sm6). I can only recall one season I ever failed to win it when Cheshire RIP beat me to the title (some seasons my team doesn't compete as the challenge isn't there) . The real interest is the relegation zone to see if Lupy currently bottom (as I discount the team with hardly any matches played whoever that is) can avoid the fate of the worst team to have ever played in the competition with the wooden spoon once again and of course who will finish second. My fans knew the title was a certainty as I have led it from start to finish as usual but can any of you catch Sheffield? Top 2 are champions league places, 3rd Europa league and bottom 2 to go down which I think is fair in this size league. Who will be joining Lupy in the championship. Andy Pandy or IVy looks set to drop

Only because my team wasn't competing in it. Ivy perhaps can provide some screenshots of the final league tables going back since the league began. We can then see for ourselves the honour list or in some cases... the wall of shame. Genuinely and in all fairness, I was surprised to see that your name doesn’t appear since 2017, so can only conclude your victories were before that year. I think I won one earlier on too but the site does not allow me to go back further, nor does it keep screenshots of league tables from years of a bygone age!

If we are looking towards the end of this site, should you win this year, perhaps you can find a permanent home for the virtual champions trophy on your mantlepiece!? 👍

so was I. It seems like only a couple of years ago I won it but we are all getting old on here where a decade seems like a year. Remember the 6 week summer holidays as a kid which felt like a lifetime - it's basically a blink of an eye now.

Thank God I have my goal difference of minus 65 to fall back on if needed (Sm126)

Updated Prediction League Standings on 09 May 2026:

Pos User Name P W D L F A GD Pts
1 An angry wolf 42 5 21 16 17 83 -66 36
2 Sheffield WWFC 42 5 16 21 23 92 -69 31
3 essington wolf 42 2 20 20 27 84 -57 26
4 Andy Pandy 42 2 17 23 15 93 -78 23
5 Ivybridge Wolf 42 2 16 24 24 89 -65 22
6 Lupy 42 1 14 27 24 115 -91 17

Odds shorting for Angry who is now 1/20 for the title, but it’s still mathematically possible for Sheffield WWFC who odds have risen to 8/1.

Essington has surely secured third place

It all goes to the last match at Molineux!

All I can say is Ivy, thank God you don't run a bookies or you would be going under faster than a worm attached to a granite slab dropped in the Pacific. (Sm6)

In a two horse race (which it now is), if I was 20-1 on, you would have to literally flip the odds. Even a bookies run by scrooge with the overround wouldn't have the nerve to offer 8-1 on Sheffield but this isn't the worse of it.

(Sm154) Statistically the odds in real life of backing a correct score successfully are around 12-1. Some scores are higher odds, one or two like 1-1 lower so the odds on two correct scores in a row is literally 144-1 but I'm afraid the poor calculations that you made don't stop there. You then have to factor in me not getting either a correct score or 2 points ( possibly 1 but no idea how the GD works after all these years). His true odds are probably between 150-1 and 200-1. A miserly bookies may offer 80-1 but there would be no odds up for me as it's what's known as an " early payout" (dead cert)(Sm122)

Thanks for the stats Angry 😂
Perhaps my miserly odds reflect that I used to have the odd flutter in a bookies called Blewett’s, which as the name suggests, is no longer open.

Well, excitement as the prediction league will enter into the very final weekend.

We have a last day decider with Sheffield closing the gap to Angry to just 2 points with one game to go, and the GD is so close too!!

Ivybridge Wolf bookies are in meltdown 🤣 with Angry remaining the favourite.

All the very best to both Angry and Sheffield for next Sunday 👍

Elsewhere, congratulations to Essington for securing 3rd place.

The rest of us are chasing paper bags in the wind!!

It wouldn't be the molineux way without last day drama but the reason for Sheffield's late surge in the league is due to drones spotted above my training ground. I will be in full lockdown for the next week. The finishing line is proving to be the oasis in the desert that keeps re appearing over the next horizon, but my board are confident the camel / club will reach the watering hole to p1ss all over the rest of the league like it normally does. My commiserations to Lupy for finishing rock bottom and taking up one of the 2 relegation spots. Ivy is expected to join him in the championship for eternity as this season is likely the last - welcome to terminal lower league oblivion. (Sm57)

Had correct score last 2 weekends but all to late, a bit like wolves.
Good luck to angry and Sheffield next week, let the best man win.
I'm off to my second Home Salou Tuesday for a few weeks so I will be dragging the Mrs to a local Bar to watch the Burnley wooden spoon game, that will please her, I may be done for abuse😂.

It showed Sheffield top when I clicked on it, changed a minute later. It's finished on a very sour note this competition.

Under normal circumstances I would trust you to update it, but the match said 24th June on it finishing in a very strange manner. Presumably the table when I clicked on it was as you were updating it with Sheffield's 0-0 prediction added before mine. The window to see that must be tiny, but my directors were spitting feathers as we had assumed we had been cheated out of the title. (Sm95)

There were glitches and the nature of the mechanics of the site make it difficult to logically correct, but I got there and as with Eurovision the results are in and have been independently verified!

Thanks for all who took part, like Portsmouth winning the cup in 1939 (beating Wolves of course) Angry keeps the title for a likely record period of time !

Well done to Sheffield for taking it to the wire.

To the rest of us, well, we had a go didn’t we!

All the best.

Apologies for questioning the integrity of the FA, but for a split second thought VAR had come in to pred league changing the outcome (Sm6). It's only a trivial bit of fun the league, but after competing for a year in it, may as well try to win the thing.

Probably my last message on here so cheers for keeping the site going - all the best (Sm42)

Ty Essington, I'm still in shock I haven't won it since before covid. The years fly by like months now and thought it was only 2 or 3 years ago, but more like 7 years eye popping smiley .TC
